Now that it has become all autumn-y and cold (in Denmark anyway) focus on the good stuff - a new shoe season has arrived! It's too cold to wear ballerinas so swop them with tomboy shoes for now. Mannish shoes were all over the A/W 10 catwalks and Sienna Miller has been seen wearing her Rupert Sanderson oxfords out and about for quite a while now.
I think that women have to be very careful not to look either clumsy or too masculine when picking a pair of mannish shoes, so my advice is to style them well (really think about it when buying them) and not to settle for just an 'okay' pair. A quick style advice: unless you have thick calves (be honest with yourself) the shoes usually look good with folded up jeans, a feminine skirt that ends over the knee, or just plain skinny jeans.
Rupert Sanderson's oxfords. Here worn by Olivia Palermo.
Marc by Marc Jacobs' leather brogues
I must mention my favourite pair (I have been the happy owner of a pair since I bought them at Barney's NYC last year) - Louboutin's Fred Flats. They're insanely cool (more so in real life) and comfortable.
If you're not willing to invest in a high-end label pair, Urban Outfitters have acceptable substitutes. These are from Deena and Ozzy and only cost £28.
